Adidas is one of the most famous sports brands globally, but can you answer the question: where is Adidas made?
Adidas was founded in Germany in 1924, but only in 1949 adopted the Adidas name. Everyone had at least one Adidas product in their life, from footwear to clothes or accessories. This is how big this sports brand is. Only Nike surpasses Adidas when it comes to sportswear manufacturing.
Since I was sure most products from the three stripes company wouldn’t be made in Germany, I have decided to review hundreds of product descriptions on Adidas’s website to verify if the brand lists where the products are made. I also visited a couple of Adidas stores and some stores that sell Adidas products, checking multiple items. So let’s find out where Adidas is manufactured.
Where Is Adidas Made?
Adidas manufactures in 48 countries in 2021, with most of its production being made in China, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
Some other countries where Adidas manufactures are Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, El Salvador, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Honduras, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Jordania, Korea, Lesotho, Lithuania, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mexico, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Philipines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United States, and the United Kingdom.
Usually, I have a problem when brands don’t state the country of origin on their website, and you have to wait to receive the physical product to check it. However, in Adidas’s case, even if I still would like the German sports brand to put that information on every product description, I am not that bothered. Why? Because they literally state their entire factory list, with the countries, addresses, and what they manufacture on each factory on their website.

Adidas is not trying to hide where their products are made, but they don’t tell you unless you ask. Nothing wrong with that, and still much better than certain brands that don’t put the information anywhere on the internet, and you will only find out where the products are made when you receive them since the US legislation and EU rules require the brands to tell the country of origin for any imported products when it comes to physical goods.
Adidas outsources most of its production to independent contractors, so this doesn’t mean that if a country has 50 factories, they exclusively manufacture Adidas, or that factory belongs to Adidas.
Here is a list of how many independent factories manufacture for Adidas around the world:
China – 104 Factories (Apparel, Accessories, Footwear, Hard Goods, and Gear)
Vietnam – 76 Factories (Apparel, Accessories, Footwear, and Gear)
Indonesia – 45 Factories (Apparel, Accessories, Footwear)
India – 32 Factories (Apparel, Accessories, Footwear)
Brazil – 27 Factories (Apparel, Accessories, Footwear)
United States – 27 (Apparel, Accessories, Footwear, Hard Goods, and Gear)
Cambodia – 24 Factories (Apparel, Accessories, Footwear)
Turkey – 16 Factories (Apparel, Accessories, Footwear)
Pakistan – 16 Factories (Apparel, Accessories, Gear)
Thailand – 13 Factories (Apparel)
Many of the countries on the list provided by Adidas only have one factory/independent contractor, and most of them don’t have more than 3. Asia has clearly the most factories/independent contractors when compared with any other continent.

I like it when brands manufacture in their country of origin because they help their country’s economy, providing jobs. However, in 2019, Adidas announced that the “speed factories” in Germany and the US would move to China and Vietnam.

I don’t think you will find so many “Made In Germany” labels, since I didn’t find any in all Adidas stores I have visited, but maybe if you are in Germany, you can find them more often than in any other country.
Is Adidas Made In China?
Yes, Adidas makes many of its products in China, including apparel, accessories, footwear, gear, and hard goods.
It’s not a surprise that many Adidas products are manufactured in China since the labor and materials are cheaper there than in Europe. However, in the last decade, Adidas has been shifting its product manufacturing from China to Vietnam.
China still has more factories/independent contractors than Vietnam, but that can change in the next decade. Vietnam can be the number one manufacturing country for Adidas and other sportive brands like Nike and Reebok. Skechers manufactures its shoes between China and Vietnam, so the shifting is happening there already.

Many brands are shifting their manufacturing to other countries that are not China because its yearly average manufacturing wages have increased by 80 percent since 2010 (it’s still cheap, but not as cheap as a decade ago). Southeast Asia is a region where big fashion brands are opening more factories or making agreements with independent manufacturers due to cheaper labor and materials.
Is Adidas Made In Vietnam?
Yes, Adidas manufactures many of its products in Vietnam, including apparel, accessories, footwear, and gear.
Vietnam is one manufacturing destination for many fashion brands and a great alternative to China when it comes to brands reducing costs, like labor, materials, or rent.
Vietnam factories have successfully created an adaptable production system for fashion brands that want to produce apparel, footwear, or accessories.
A study conducted by Natixis SA decided the seven emerging Asian economies as manufacturing options over China, and Vietnam was ranked number one. The low wages, demographics, logistics, and business rankings were some of the features evaluated in the study.
Is Adidas Made In Vietnam Original?
Yes, Adidas “Made In Vietnam” are original goods. But, of course, you have fake Adidas “Made In Vietnam” products in the market because no brand is safe. To ensure you buy original Adidas, always buy from their website, stores, and authorized retailers.

Adidas shoes are made in a few different countries, like Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Myanmar, Turkey, the United States, and Vietnam. Adidas slides can also be manufactured in these countries.
According to Adidas, 120 of its factories/independent contractors are exclusively dedicated to manufacturing footwear. Without any surprise, China and Vietnam are responsible for more than half of Adidas footwear production.
