Balmain is a French luxury brand and one of the most expensive fashion labels worldwide. So the question you have is: where is Balmain made?
I will be honest with you. After seeing Balmain’s prices for some items, I was curious to see if the French fashion house was manufactured in Frace and Italy or outsourced from places like China and Vietnam.
To confirm, I have decided to review hundreds of product descriptions on the Balmain website to check if the brand lists where the products are made. I also visited some multi-brand stores that sell Balmain products (I couldn’t find any Balmain store), checking multiple items. So let’s find out where Balmain is manufactured.
Where Is Balmain Made?
Balmain goods are manufactured in France, Italy, Portugal, China, Bulgaria, Japan, and Poland.
The majority of the Balmain ready-to-wear collection is manufactured between Italy, Portugal, France, and Bulgaria. Most footwear is made in China and some in Italy, and most accessories are manufactured in France.
Balmain is a strange one when it comes to listing where its products are manufactured on the product description on its website. The majority of the ready-to-wear collections for men and women don’t list where the products were made. But if you check footwear and accessories, most goods have where they were manufactured.
When a fashion brand lists the country of origin of some products but not all of them, I always think they have something to hide. For example, many luxury brands don’t want you to know that they manufacture in countries like China and Vietnam because the products will be viewed as low-quality. However, Balmain has many of its shoes made in China and provides this information for you on their website. So I’m not sure why they just don’t tell you the country of origin of every product.
However, don’t worry if Balmain’s website doesn’t provide the country of origin because when you receive the physical product, you can check the label. The US and EU legislation requires brands to indicate the country of origin.
When I checked Balmain products in-store, I found products from four different countries, Italy, Portugal, Bulgaria, and Japan. Unfortunately, I didn’t find any products manufactured in China or France because I couldn’t see any shoes or accessories.
Is Balmain Made In France?
Yes, Balmain manufactures belts, gloves, scarves, hats, and some bags in France. Some ready-to-wear may also be manufactured in France, but I didn’t find any information about it.
Balmain Paris has its headquarters in Paris, but that doesn’t mean the products are made there. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any information about where exactly in France Balmain makes its products.

I’m happy to see that Balmain manufactures in its home country because I always like it when a brand prides itself on the expertise they have in its country and doesn’t outsource (at least when it comes to accessories). Of course, this is not always possible, but in the case of Balmain, I knew it was.
Is Balmain Made In Italy?
Yes, Balmain manufactures apparel, footwear, and accessories in Italy.

Luxury brands love to manufacture in Italy due to the power of the “Made In Italy” label. People perceive that label as excellent quality products, the best materials, and the best craftsmanship. As a result, most consumers think that products “Made In Italy” are worth every penny.
I have to say that “Made In Italy” products are excellent. But when it comes to products manufactured in Portugal, China, or Vietnam, the quality is the same for luxury brands. The quality control is so strict that it doesn’t really matter where the product was produced.

Portugal’s craftsmanship is considered one of the best in the world for many luxury brands that seek cheaper materials and labor when compared with France or Italy. So it’s not a surprise to see Portugal in the country of origin of so many luxurious brands since the country is moving away from low-cost mass production and focusing on quality and design.
Balmain is made in Vizela, Braga in the North of Portugal, by the group Gabs Design & Textil.
