Where is Prada made? The Italian brand is a well-known fashion company that has been around for over 100 years. So even if an Italian designer founded Prada, does that means all products are “Made In Italy”?

Everyone thinks that Prada is manufactured in Italy, especially the iconic handbags that are hugely popular, but as you will read in this article, Prada manufactures in many different countries.

Since I don’t own any Prada products, I have decided to review hundreds of product descriptions on Prada’s website to check if the luxury brand lists where the products are made. I also visited two Prada stores, checking multiple item labels. So let’s find out where Prada is manufactured.

Where Is Prada Made?

Prada apparel, footwear, bags, and other accessories are manufactured in Italy, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Hungary, Romania, and Turkey.

Where Is Prada Made

Prada does not list where its products are manufactured in the product description on its website (this is very common among fashion brands). However, on the Prada Group website, you have a list of the Italian label production sites that seem incomplete to me (I will debate that further).

Luxury brands don’t like to state where their products are manufactured on their website because they don’t want consumers to know some products are made in specific destinations. In addition, some people don’t want to pay hundreds of dollars (sometimes thousands) for an item made in Asian countries because it’s perceived as a low-quality product.

At least Prada is consistent and doesn’t list any country on the website. Brands like Burberry state all products “Made In Italy” on their website, but when it comes to goods “Made In China,” they prefer to say the product is “Imported.”

But don’t worry, you can still find where any Prada item was manufactured since it’s on the label of the physical good. The US and EU legislation requires brands to indicate the country of origin of a product.

It was also a surprise that Prada manufactures products outside of Italy and Asia. I was not expecting the Italian luxury brand to manufacture in Hungary or Romania. They probably manufacture in more countries that I couldn’t find in-store (I always had someone who worked there with me, but that didn’t stop me from taking pictures).

Is Prada Made In Italy?

Yes, Prada apparel, footwear, bags, and accessories are manufactured in Italy.

Like other Italian luxury brands such as Gucci, Versace, and Dolce and Gabbana, Prada also manufactures most of its products in Italy. Therefore, I would say that I have found many goods manufactured in Italy in-store, but not as prevalent as I was expecting.

Prada seems to want to hide where the products are made on their website because they list 23 production sites, saying 20 of them are in Italy (they clearly ignore the independent producing sites in other countries). I have no problem with that being true, but where is the information about the production sites for countries like China, Vietnam, Turkey, etc.? In my opinion, if a brand lists one country, it should list all.

Luxury brands try to manufacture mainly in Italy because of the power of that label. A “Made In Italy” label is synonymous with the best products, high-quality materials, and skilled craftsmanship for many consumers. As a result, you are purchasing expensive products because they have everything everyday products don’t, and that’s why it is luxury fashion.

So Prada moved some of its production from Italy to China, and it’s not difficult to understand why. Many luxury brands, including Prada, shifted their manufacturing to China to improve their profits since the labor and materials are cheaper there than in Europe. However, that doesn’t mean these products are low quality since luxury fashion brands have strict quality protocols to be followed before approving a product to sell.

It could have been a risky move since Prada has built its reputation on items crafted in Italy by skilled artisans. Just the manufacturing skills of these artisans could justify the high prices. I guess the less exclusive and cheap Prada products are manufactured outside of Italy.

Many people keep saying that Prada’s quality has declined over the years and that move of production from Italy to China could be the reason (it didn’t happen with other fashion brands). However, others defend the quality remained the same. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you about Prada since I don’t have any items from the brand, but I have some other high-end fashion goods, “Made In China” that are of excellent quality and have been very durable.

I have two say that I only found two Prada clothing pieces, “Made In China,” in the two Prada stores I visited. Definitely a big surprise to me.

Yes, many Prada apparel, footwear, and accessories are manufactured in Vietnam.

Is Prada Made In Vietnam

Many fashion brands have been swapping China for Vietnam when it comes to manufacturing their products since the labor and materials are cheaper there. Many American brands have chosen Vietnam due to the tariff war between the US and China that brings an uncertain future, and brands don’t want to put all eggs in one basket. It’s important to diversify where the products are manufactured.

I also found a lot more Prada goods “Made In Vietnam” than in China, so moving from one country to the other may have been happening without consumers knowing (or maybe it was just luck since I didn’t check every single product).

Prada bags are manufactured in Italy and China.

I only checked one Prada bag in-store, and that bag was manufactured in Italy. Checking bags labels was tough when you had someone following you all the time in-store. I had to open the bag and remove everything inside, which made everything so much more difficult.

If you find Prada bags “Made In China,” don’t think it’s fake because Prada manufactures parts of its bags in China.

Italian brands usually try to maintain most of their manufacturing in Italy since the power of the “Made In Italy” label is authentic. Still, Prada doesn’t seem to be worried about outsourcing some of its production to different countries like China, Vietnam, and other Asian and European countries.

At the end of the day, if you like Prada, it doesn’t matter where the products are manufactured since the quality should be maintained independently of the country of origin.
