Versace is one of the most prominent Italian luxury fashion brands globally, and everyone knows who Gianni Versace was and who Donatella Versace is. But can you answer the question: where is Versace made?

Created in 1978 by Gianni Versace, the brand quickly became loved by consumers with ready-to-wear and also haute couture pieces. What I like about Versace is that its designs are very innovative. It’s not a surprise that Michael Kors Holdings acquired the Italian luxury brand in 2018 for over $2 billion (USD)
To fact-check the best way possible about where Versace is made, I have decided to review hundreds of product descriptions on Versace’s website to verify if the brand lists where the products are made and researched a lot online. I also visited their store and some stores that sell Versace products and checked multiple items. So let’s find out where Versace is manufactured.
You can also check out the best French, British and American luxury fashion brands.

Where Is Versace Made?
Versace menswear, womenswear, kidswear, accessories, footwear, and homeware are made mainly in Italy but also in Germany, Spain, France, Switzerland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Albania.
Versace seems to have no problems stating what products are made in Italy on its website. After all, the made-in-Italy strength is accurate, and people prefer to spend money on clothes and accessories produced there. The luxury Italian brand also states Spain, Switzerland, and Germany, but not Romania, Bulgaria, or Albania.

In fact, many products on the Versace website don’t have any information about where they are manufactured. Sometimes you can read “imported,” which usually means the brand doesn’t want you to know where its products are manufactured.
I’ve always had a problem with this kind of “transparency” of luxury brands because they either indicate where all the products are made or don’t. For example, Burberry adopts the same strategy, where the British brand lists the made In Italy products. Still, the made-in-China goods have no information or have “imported” in the product description.

In-store all products had the country of origin on the label since the US and EU legislation requires brands to indicate the country of origin. That’s why I could find products manufactured in Romania, Albania, and Bulgaria. I am pretty sure I could find more, but they saw me taking pictures and didn’t leave me alone in-store anymore.
This is what I have found in my research online and in-store (keep in mind that a lot of the products on the Versace website had no information at all about the country of origin):
Made In Italy – Menswear, Womenswear, Kidswear, Accessories, Footwear, and Homeware
Made In Germany – Homeware
Made In France – Perfume
Made In Switzerland – Watches
Made In Romania – T-Shirts, Sweatshirts, Jeans
Made In Albania – T-Shirts, Jeans
Made In Bulgaria – T-Shirts, Sweatshirts

Versace also states in its annual report that “The vast majority of Versace’s production is located in Italy. The remaining production occurs elsewhere in Europe, and a small portion is produced in Asia or North Africa.” This means Versace manufactures somewhere in North Africa and Asia, but it seems to be in such a small portion that I didn’t find anything in-store.

Donatella Versace once said in an interview, “Made in Italy means being a leader in innovation and fashion made with genuine, traditional craftsmanship.” I agree with her since most consumers always try to look for made-in-Italy items since, for them, it’s synonymous with the best products, materials, and craftsmanship.
Donatella also said that it’s crucial to have Versace made in Italy because she is very patriotic, which means that the brand can be considered a luxury. But, we consumers can find a few products made outside of Italy.

I believe the difference is that the haute couture collection is all made in Italy, and the ready-to-wear collection (cheaper and more accessible to the non-rich) is made in these cheaper countries. From a financial point of view, it makes sense. If you sell the product cheaper, its cost should also be less expensive, and that’s why I believe Versace manufactures outside of Italy.
Is Versace Made In China?
As far as I know, Versace is not made in China.

It’s a general question regarding fashion brands because many of them make their products in China. It’s not very often for luxury brands, but high-premium brands like Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren manufacture many of their products in China.

Brands manufacture their products in China because the labor and materials are cheaper, and the profit margins can be more prominent. I guess for many consumers, a made-in-Albania tag is better than a made-in-China one, but let me tell you that I have products manufactured in China from high-premium brands that are of excellent quality.
However, don’t forget that Versace manufactures a small portion of its products in Asia, which could lead to some products being manufactured in China, like some accessories or homeware essentials.
